  68. POST INSTALLATION INFORMATION
  69. -----------------------------
  70. Once the basic program installation is complete, the Professional Carrier
  71. program will automatically load and configure itself. This can be a
  72. lengthy process but only the very first time the program is loaded.
  73. Following that, the program will load much faster.
  74.  
  75. To start the program in the future, you should switch to the subdirectory
  76. where you installed the program (i.e. \PROCARR), type PROCARR, and then
  77. press [ENTER].  If the program is the shareware/evaluation version, a
  78. shareware and registration reminder screen will appear.  After reading
  79. this screen carefully, press any key to proceed. A title and copyright
  80. screen will be displayed, along with the program Main Menu.
  81.  
  82. Please refer to the files WHATSNEW.xxx files (where "xxx" represents the
  83. product release version number) for information regarding new program
  84. changes, features, and enhancements.

  87. QUICK START
  88. -----------
  89. In order to make FULL use of this program, you will need to read the
  90. manual, which is supplied as the file MANUAL.TXT. However, to get started
  91. quickly just to see what the program looks like, simply switch to the
  92. subdirectory where you have installed the program files (i.e. CD
  93. PROCARR), type PROCARR and press [ENTER].  The program contains
  94. context-sensitive Help which you can call by pressing the [F1] key.

  96. COLOR/MONOCHROME MONITORS
  97. -------------------------
  98. This program will check to see if you have a color video card installed
  99. in your computer. If it finds one, it will automatically set the screen
  100. display to the color settings. If it finds a monochrome video card, it
  101. will automatically set the screen display to the monochrome settings. If
  102. you are using a color card with a monochrome monitor, the program may not
  103. display properly. However, you can go back to the DOS prompt and restart
  104. the program using the command  PROCARR M  to restart the program in
  105. forced monochrome mode.

  107. USER'S MANUAL & ORDER FORM
  108. --------------------------
  109. To View or Print the order form, move to the far right, select the
  110. UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down Arrow key, select
  111. the "Order Form" option and press [ENTER]. You will be able to view the
  112. order form before you print it. Alternately, you can print it from
  113. outside the program, from the DOS command line. Just change to the
  114. directory in which the ORDER.TXT file resides. Then enter the following
  115. command:

  117.         COPY ORDER.TXT PRN
  118.  
  119. The User's Manual is included in a file called MANUAL.TXT.  It can also
  120. be printed either from the menu option, or from the DOS command line. To
  121. print it from DOS, change to the directory in which the MANUAL.TXT file
  122. resides. Then enter the following command to print the manual:

  126. To View or Print the manual from within the program, move to the far
  127. right, select the UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down

  225. INSTALLATION
  226. ------------
  227. The installation utility provided (INSTALL.EXE) will install Professional
  228. Carrier on your hard disk drive, and will also check to see that your
  229. system meets all of the program requirements.
  230.  
  231. If you received this program on floppy disks, simply insert the disk
  232. (Disk #1 if there are multiple disks) into your floppy disk drive, type
  233. A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL), and press the [ENTER] key.
  234.  
  235. If you received this program electronically (i.e. as a ZIP file), simply
  236. extract the contents of the ZIP file to an *empty* temporary subdirectory
  237. on your hard drive, switch to that subdirectory, type INSTALL and press
  238. [ENTER]. Then select the "Install from hard drive" option to begin the
  239. installation.

  242. SUBDIRECTORY/PROGRAM LOCATION CONSIDERATIONS
  243. --------------------------------------------
  244. IF: you have been using a previous version of *THIS* product, you should
  245.     install this version into the *same* subdirectory that you installed
  246.     the previous version. This will allow this newer version to properly
  247.     update your existing files while still maintaining any existing data
  248.     that you have already entered.
  249.  
  250. IF: you have been using our Paper Route Ledger program, and are
  251.     upgrading to this program, you *SHOULD NOT* install this program
  252.     into the same sub-directory as your existing PRL files. You
  253.     should install this program into its own, separate subdirectory.
  254.     See the "Upgrading Instructions" contained in the manual, or
  255.     supplied separately.

  258.     files from the Paper Route Ledger program -- refer to the file

  261. Since we may have changed the "default" installation directory during our
  262. update process, be sure to check this carefully when the installation
  263. program asks you for the subdirectory to install to.

  266. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
  267. --------------------
  268. The following system parameters need to be checked and possibly modified
  269. in order for the Professional Carrier program to function properly....
  270.  
  271. You will need to check the FILES and BUFFERS settings in your CONFIG.SYS
  272. file (the install program will check this, and give you the opportunity
  273. to modify it you want to).  If you don't already have at least 40 FILES
  274. and 40 BUFFERS, please change these lines accordingly (or let the
  275. installation program do it for you):
  276.  
  277.         FILES=40
  278.         BUFFERS=40
  279.  
  280. Also, your AUTOEXEC.BAT file must contain the following line:
  281.  
  282.         SET CLIPPER=F45
  283.  
  284. (the "F" value in the above SET command should always be "5" more than
  285. the FILES= setting. For example, if you have FILES=60, then the SET
  286. statement should be SET CLIPPER=F65. Unfortunately, our installation
  287. utility is not capable of setting the Clipper statement for values other
  288. than 45, so you'll need to double-check your AUTOEXEC.BAT file if your
  289. CONFIG.SYS file sets your FILES= setting to a value greater than 40)
  290.  
  291. If you don't allow the install program to make any necessary
  292. modifications, then you will need to make the changes manually.
  293.  
  294. Either way, if there are any changes made, you will need to reboot your
  295. system in order for these changes to take effect.

  299. NOTE: if you have been using a version of Professional Carrier prior to
  300. v1.24, there is a chance that your collection data is corrupt. Please
  301. refer to the file V123BUG.TXT for instructions on correcting the problem.

  303. VENDOR DISKETTES:

  305. If you are a disk vendor, and you wish to distribute this product on
  306. floppy diskettes, we have designed our installation routines to
  307. accommodate all diskette formats. Our installation fileset will fit
  308. completely on a single 1.44Mb 3.5" or 1.2Mb 5.25" diskette. However, in
  309. order for this to work properly on multi-disk sets, you will need to
  310. insure that the correct files are placed on the appropriate disks:

  312. 720Kb  3.5" Disks (2) - PC2.DAT must be placed on Disk #2; all other
  313.                         files must be placed on Disk #1.
